What Order Should You Apply Your Skincare Products?

Skincare can be as simple or as advanced as you want it to be. Whether you are doing a 3 step routine or a 5 step routine, sometimes it’s hard to know which order to apply all those products in. Hopefully the below will make things a little clearer for you!

Step 1- Cleanser

Cleansing cleans makeup, oils, and dirt from our skins surface. Therefore, it is important that it is always the first step of our AM and PM routine to ensure our skin in completely clean before layering the following steps.

If you choose to double cleanse this will create a deeper clean for the skin. An oil/balm-based cleanser will always be the first step of double cleansing as this will help with the dissolving of makeup and products on the skins surface. You would then follow with a treatment cleanser which will remove any excess from your first cleanse and finish off cleansing the skin and pores.

Goat Milk Moisturising Cleanser works perfectly as a second cleanse or on its own when not removing makeup as this is a gentle daily cleanser infused Manuka Honey which will nourish our skin preventing tightness after washing.

Step 2- Exfoliation

Exfoliation is an important step we often miss. Depending on the product you are using for this step it is not something you always need to do daily.

We exfoliate to remove any dead skin cells on our skins surface. This leaves it looking brighter and helps with texture, as well as massively benefiting the delivery process of the next products you are going to apply. The following products can then work to their full potential as they can penetrate deeper into our skin.

Exfolikate Intensive is our clinic-inspired exfoliator, that has a formulation of Lactic Acid & Salicylic Acid, Pumpkin, Papaya and Pineapple enzymes to help improve skin texture and the appearance of pores in two minutes, whilst prepping the skin for the rest of your routine.

Step 3- Mask

This is a luxury step that does not need to be done daily. Masks are a great way to give the skin an instant treatment. There are many different options, but the 2 main choices are hydration and detoxifying.

Hydration masks come in many forms such as a sheet masks, that you apply for approx. 20 minutes or a paste that you would apply all over and wash off after the recommended time or sometimes for some extra bonus hydration you can sleep in and rinse off in the AM.

Detox mask are most found as clay products that you apply all over, leaving the product to dry out, helping to remove impurities in the skin.

Step 4 – Treatment/Serum

Serums/Treatments work to target specific concerns. They create highly effective results as they penetrate our skins surface deeper than any other step and are often packed full of amazing active ingredients. If you are suffering from dehydration, pigmentation, breakouts etc. Choosing the correct serum to target these concerns can help improve them more than any other step.

The Dermal Quench products are a great choice to add to your routine if you currently do not use any specific hydrating products in your routine. This product is based on one of Kate’s bestselling facials in her clinic ‘The Dermal Quench Oxygen Facial’, where she blasts the skin with a hyaluronic acid-based formula through an oxygen machine. Our Dermal Quench’s products contain Hyaluronic Acid which penetrate the skin delivering optimal results by visibly plumping and smoothing. Radiance-boosting Oxygen works to improve your skin barrier while brightening dull-looking skin.

Step 5- Moisturiser

Moisturising is our final step in our PM routine. When using a moisturiser it will protect our skin by creating a temporary barrier. They help to improve skin tone and texture on the surface layer of our skin, as well as locking in all the previous steps.

Our Goat Milk Moisturising Cream is perfect for all skin types as it deeply hydrates our skin and designed to support a healthy skin barrier whilst calming the skin. It can be used daily in both your AM and PM routine. Containing lactose from Goat Milk, as well as Jojoba and Avocado oil to hydrate, soothe and moisturise dry skin.

Step 6- SPF

SPF works to protect our skin from invisible damage caused by UVA and UVB rays which are constantly being emitted and penetrating our skin. UV stands for ultraviolet radiation and it can even penetrate through windows causing damage to our skin which can lead to things like pigmentation, uneven skin tone, early signs of ageing and even skin cancer. This step is only needed in your AM routine and not essential for your PM routine.

UncompliKated SPF 50 Soft Focus Makeup Setting Spray is a broad-spectrum SPF 50, providing your skin with protection against both UVA and UVB radiation. Also formulated with a light diffusing silicone powder and hyaluronic acid which will help soften the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles, hydrating the skin while reducing shine and providing a matte finish helping to set make up and to provide top ups throughout the day.

Daily Deflector Mineral Sunscreen is a 100% mineral sunscreen that absorbs & deflects UV rays. Formulated with non-nano Zinc Oxide which provides UVA & UVB protection. As well being formulated with a Ceramide complex that helps to strengthen the skins barrier and lock in moisture. Your perfect SPF to apply daily after moisturiser as it helps to protect the skin from blue light, which can cause wrinkles & hyperpigmentation. Super easy to apply, has no added fragrance and works well for people with sensitive skin.
